Coatex

A subsidiary of Arkema and its Specialty Acrylic Polymers Business Unit, Coatex is one of the main global producers of flow additives for aqueous phase formulations developed for countless applications, including the suspension of minerals in water, paper and paint manufacture, and various industrial specialties.

Coatex’s expertise essentially lies in the rheology of mineral materials: dispersion in water, control of stability of aqueous suspensions, and prevention of sedimentation.

The company operates four production sites, in France, the Netherlands, the United States (South Carolina), and Korea.
Dispersants and stabilizers for aqueous mineral suspensions

Improving the handling and storage of minerals in powder form inevitably requires their suspension in water.

The minerals most widely used in industry include natural or precipitated calcium carbonate, calcium sulfate, talc, iron oxides, clays, zeolithes, baryum carbonate, zinc oxide, and aluminum hydroxide. For each of these, Coatex develops specific polymer dispersants to help optimize dispersion, and anti-sedimentation agents to ensure their stability.

Paper / cardboard

Dispersants, rheology modifiers and water retention agents for coating slip.

Through close relations with the major suppliers to the paper industry, Coatex has developed a unique know-how in the control of the rheology of mineral filler dispersions, a decisive factor in the paper coating slip technology.
Coatex’s range of water-soluble polymers for paper and cardboard coating includes:

  • polyacrylate dispersants, e.g. COATEX GX N (sodium polyacrylate)
  • rheology modifiers and water retention agents from the RHEOCOAT™ and COAZUR™ ranges.

Paint

Dispersants and thickeners for aqueous phase formulations

Coatex’s synthetic rheology modifiers are used to liquify paints in aqueous phase (dispersants) and to increase their viscosity (thickeners) in order to optimize their behavior before, during and after application.

  • ECODIS™ and COADIS™ polyacrylate type dispersants
  • Acrylic thickeners from the VISCOATEX™, THIXOL™ and COATEX RHEO™ ranges
  • COAPUR™ polyurethane thickeners.

Industrial Specialties: water treatment

Dispersants and scale inhibitors for boilers and cooling circuits

Coatex develops a wide range of polymers, dispersants and scale inhibitors, specifically suited to the various constraints of water treatment related to temperature and the nature of the impurities present.
